Pedram Zohrevand Managed Research and Development Projects as a Research Assistant Professor at Florida International University

Pedram Zohrevand is a highly experienced and prominent professional, who has served as a Research Assistant Professor at Florida International University (FIU). He conducted research and development projects on the application of Fiber Reinforced Polymers and Ultra-High Performance Concrete in different structural systems, including buildings and bridges. In addition to this, he has been teaching graduate and undergraduate courses.

According to Google Scholar, Pedram Zohrevand has more than 20 scholarly papers published in high-ranking peer-reviewed journals with more than 100 citations. Most recently, he published a paper titled “A super lightweight UHPC–HSS deck panel for movable bridges” in the Journal of Engineering Structures. The purpose of this study was to optimize the design of an innovative UHPC–HSS deck system to meet the weight limits for existing movable bridges.

Some of this paper’s highlights include -
  • A lightweight waffle deck as a combination of two high-strength materials was proposed.
  • This innovative bridge deck system is applicable to movable bridges, bridge deck replacement, and bridge widening.
  • The experiments showed capacity and ductility of the proposed deck system.
  • It demonstrated an effective panel action
  • Punching of thin slab should not be a design concern.
Pedram has been a vigorous and active member of different professional committees, such as -
  • American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
  • American Concrete Institute (ACI)
  • George E. Brown Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES)
  • Structural Engineers Association of South California (SEASC)
Moreover, being a dedicated member of the ACI Committee 440 and Structural Engineers Association of South California (SEASC), Pedram Zohrevand has been involved in the development of design guidelines for retrofit of seismically deficient structures using Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Composites. He is also the Director of Engineering at CES4. He has also worked with many reputed organizations prior to this.
